Rehabilitation of Non-Potable Well Field Stations and Supervision of Installation of BWRO Mobile Units

Qatar

The Government of the State of Qatar, through the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA), initiated a comprehensive rehabilitation and maintenance project for eleven (11) well fields, comprising a total of thirty-eight (38) wells. The objective of the project was to ensure an alternative potable water resource in emergency situations and reduce reliance on seawater desalination.

The wells in the project area range in depth from 17 to 60 meters, with Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) levels ranging between 1,000 and 6,000 mg/l. Qatar’s limited fresh groundwater resources and its scarcity of renewable water resources necessitated this project. The primary aquifer system in Qatar, composed of limestone and dolomite, is affected by aquitards and aquicludes, which have significantly reduced well productivity and impacted water quality.
