The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) initiated the Aquifer Storage & Recovery (ASR) project to ensure the supply of potable water during emergencies. Comprehensive groundwater studies conducted in the eastern parts of Dubai have identified suitable areas for ASR implementation. Based on the feasibility report, DEWA decided to begin with a small-scale Stage 1 project, which will provide detailed data to determine the optimal location for the full-scale ASR well field. Stage 1 of the ASR project was designed in a way that it can be fully integrated into a later industrial-scale project.
