Saadiyat Island is roughly triangular in shape and covers an area of approximately 27
square kilometres. It is located east of Abu Dhabi Island in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC), as the master developer,
envisaged a mix development of Saadiyat Island divided into seven districts, namely:
Cultural, Marina, Beach, Promenade, Lagoons, Reserve and Retreat Districts.
The development of Saadiyat Island is continuing with a large number of facilities
completed, some under construction and many others planned to commence soon.
As part of the development of the island the sewer infrastructure is a critical
component with the first phase of this, comprising of Sewage Treatment Plant 1,
Sewage Pumping Station 1 and the associated network, being in service since
December 2010. As permanent developments were completed, Sewage Treatment
Plant 2 will be commissioned to treat an average flow of 78,000 m3/day.
